Drinking: A Love Story

Fifteen million Americans a year are plagued with alcoholism. Five million of them are women. Many of them, like Caroline Knapp, started in their early teens and began to use alcohol as "liquid armor", a way to protect themselves against the difficult realities of life. In this extraordinarily candid and revealing memoir, Knapp offers important insights not only about alcoholism, but about life itself and how we learn to cope with it. Click here>

Women's Moods

Nearly twice as many women as men suffer from depression or anxiety, interfering with their ability to work and care for themselves and their loved ones. Now, Deborah Sichel and Jeanne Watson Driscoll show how depression and anxiety are the result of a process of long-term chemical "loading" as the brain repeatedly "revs up" in response to stress. Here, they share their unique self-care program, NURSE: Nourishment and Needs, Understanding, Rest and Relaxation, Spirituality, and Exercise, to help the brain self-stabilise and prevent future problems. Through meditation, stories, and the meeting of Buddhism and psychology, the Dalai Lama shows us how to defeat day-to-day depression, anxiety, anger, jealousy, or just an ordinary bad mood. He discusses relationships, health, family, work, and spirituality to show us how to ride through life's obstacles on a deep, abiding source of inner peace. Based on 2,500 years of Buddhist meditations and with a healthy dose of common sense, The Art of Happiness is a program that crosses the boundaries of all traditions to help listeners with the difficulties common to all human beings. The Sermon on the Mount

What did Jesus teach? Distilled from years of study and lecture, affirmed by nearly a million readers over the last fifty years, Emmet Fox's answer in The Sermon on the Mount is simple. The Bible is a "textbook of metaphysics" and the teachings of Jesus express--without dogma--a practical approach for the development of the soul and for the shaping of our lives into what we really wish them to be. For Fox, Jesus was "no sentimental dreamer, no mere dealer in empty platitudes, but the unflinching realist that only a great mystic can be." Click here>
